Responsible for the professional management and operation of the City of Roanoke Rapids functions, facilities, property and departments personally or through subordinate managers. The City employs approximately 138 FTEs and has a budget of $12M. City services include finance, information technology, police, zoning, inspections, code enforcement, public works, fire, and parks and recreation. Qualifications include a minimum of a BA or BS degree. Requires knowledge of budgeting, grant writing, good public relations and communication skills. Director of Planning & Development – Planning Department – Opening Effective July 1, 2009
An employee in this class plans, organizes, manages, and reviews planning and development activities including current and long-range planning programs, economic and community development programs, code enforcement and minimum housing programs. Qualifications include considerable knowledge of the laws and regulations in building inspections and local code enforcement, zoning and land use, and environmental matters. Duties include consulting with boards and committees on development issues in the City including downtown development, economic development, and public housing issues.

PUBLIC NOTICE

Beginning with the 2009 taxes, the Halifax County Tax Office will be billing and collecting the taxes for the City of Roanoke Rapids.  The 2008 taxes and all prior years will continue to be collected by the City of Roanoke Rapids.

ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS HALIFAX COUNTY AIRPORT FUEL FARM

Sealed bids for the above ground fuel farm will be received until 10:00 a.m., July 10, 2009 at the office of the Purchasing Agent, 1040 Roanoke Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, NC, at which time bids will be publicly opened and read aloud.

Equipment includes two (2) 12,000 gallon tanks, two (2) dispensing stations and other related equipment.  For additional information, contact Public Works Director Richard Parnell at (252) 533-2846.  The above ground fuel farm is located at 460 Airport Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Bid envelopes shall be clearly marked in the lower left hand corner “Sealed Bid – Fuel Farm”.  No telephone bids or FAX bids will be considered.  Bid packets are available by contacting Purchasing Agent, City of Roanoke Rapids, 1040 Roanoke Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, NC  27870.

The City of Roanoke Rapids reserves the right to reject any and all bid proposals.  The City also reserves the right to award bids in the best interest of the City.

MUNICIPAL OFFICES CLOSED/TRASH COLLECTION

Municipal offices will be closed Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day.  Friday’s trash route will be collected on Wednesday, July 1.
