EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The City is now accepting applications for the following positions:
- Part-Time Seasonal Public Works Workers
- Employees in these seasonal positions will perform various duties at the Public Works Department.
These duties will involve cutting grass, trimming trees and any other duties that are involved with the
Public Works Department.
- Police Officer
- An employee in this position performs a full range of general law enforcement duties. Work includes
patrolling the City during an assigned shift in a police car or on foot; preventing, detecting and
investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects and
executing related assignments. Must have high school diploma or GED and have completed BLET (Basic Law
Enforcement Training). Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license and have completed at least
the minimum requirements established by the North Carolina Justice Training and Standards Commission for
certified law enforcement officers with prospects of successfully completing the entire certification
process within prescribed time frames.
- Part-Time Aerobics Instructor
- An employee in this class is responsible for teaching aerobics classes at T. J. Davis Recreation
Center.
- Part-Time Seasonal Recreation Workers
- Employees in these seasonal and summer positions will perform various duties at the Recreation
Department. These positions will include Seasonal Park Maintenance Workers, Lifeguards, Pool Cashier,
Summer Athletic Field Maintenance Worker, Activity Supervisor, Day Camp Leaders and Office Assistant.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS/MEETINGS:
Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids Area Planning Board will hold a public meeting Thursday,
May 15, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall at 1040 Roanoke Avenue to hear the following
item:
- A conditional use rezoning request from Thomas Barrett of BBD Development, Inc. to rezone the western
6.94± acres of the tract of land reserved for future development on the final plat of Rivers Edge
Subdivision, fronting 300.97 feet along Old Farm Road from the R-12 Residential Zoning District to the
CU-R-3 Multi-Family Residential Zoning District.
Related information is available for public inspection in the Planning and Development Office at the J.
Reuben Daniel City Hall, 1040 Roanoke Avenue. Any persons, firms, organizations or corporations interested in
this matter are urged to attend the meeting. The City of Roanoke Rapids will provide reasonable accommodations

Concert series begins Friday, May 9 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in Centennial Park with music by the Main Street
