Neighborhood Parks

C. W. Davis Park - Cedar Street
This area is a .86 acre open space park across Cedar Street from Melody Park.

Edward George Park - Virginia Avenue 
This is a 1.25 acre playground donated to the City of Roanoke Rapids by the George family. It has a swing set, sliding board, jungle gym, and benches.

Martin Luther King Park - Wyche Street And Virginia Avenue
This 2.95 acre park has the Hodgestown Day Care Center leased by the City to the Community Development Corporation of Halifax and Warren Counties. The East Side of the Park has equipment including a swing set, slide, whirl, sheltered picnic table, and spring animals. The West Side of the park has benches and sidewalks.

Melody Park - Cedar Street
This small 1.6 acre park primarily serves as open space. It has a small 3 table picnic shelter.

Rochelle Park - 5th Street And Vance Street 
This is a 6.7 acre park that has a lighted tennis court, modular play unit, swing set, wave slide, two picnic shelters, rest rooms, and picnic tables.

Southgate Park - Charles Circle
This two-acre park on Chockoyotte Creek has a modular play unit, swing set, and picnic tables.

Tinsley Park
This is a 4.5-acre open space park bequeathed to the City by the Tinsley Estate. 

Wheeler Park - Shell Street and Oak Street
The Park is currently 1.8 acres. The park has a modular play unit and outdoor basketball court.

Community Parks

Chockoyotte Park - Chockoyotte Street
This 16.5 acre park is highly used. It contains a modular play unit, 72-person picnic shelter with restrooms, 2 lighted & irrigated 300' fenced softball/soccer fields, and 1-60yd. X 120 yd. irrigated soccer field, a 2/3 mile jogging/walking trail (two bridges), and gravel parking for approximately 120 vehicles.

Emry Park - 9th Street and Cleveland Street
This 12.5-acre park is highly used. It contains a Miracle modular play unit, balance beam, swing set, 72 person picnic shelter, two horseshoe pits, sand volleyball court, ½ mile jogging/walking trail, 1-300' fence lighted softball field, 6 lighted paved tennis courts and paved parking for 75 vehicles.

Ledgerwood Park - 11th Street And Vance Street
This is a 17 acres athletic park. It contains 4 Baseball/softball fields, 2 lighted horseshoe pits, 2 lighted tennis courts, 3 Rest room/concession stands.

Long Park - 400 Block Of 4th Street and 5th Street
Located on the T. J. Davis complex, this park includes a playground unit and ¼ mile walking trail.

Smith Park - 600 Block of 4th Street and 5th Street
Located on the T. J. Davis complex, this park mainly serves as open space. It has a small 3 table picnic shelter.

Special Use Areas

Roanoke Canal Trail
            Access points- River Rd, Canal Arts Center, Aqueduct, and RR Lake Dam

The Roanoke Canal is one of the areas most valuable historic and natural resources in the Roanoke Valley. The Canal Trail is over 7 ½ miles long. 4 ½ miles are located in Roanoke Rapids and is maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department by agreement with the Roanoke Canal Commission. Approximately 80 acres of open space are associated with the trail in Roanoke Rapids between I - 95 and Weldon boat landing.

Picnic Shelter Reservations

Picnic shelter reservations can be made for shelters at Emry, Chockoyotte, and Rochelle Park. Reservations must be made in person at T. J. Davis Recreation Center.

City Residents $15.00
Non-Residents $30.00

Reservations for picnic areas for Smith and Long Park can be made by city residents only at no cost.
