Public Works Divisions

 Fleet Maintenance

Fleet maintenance provides preventive and repair maintenance to 250 pieces of rolling stock. The division is staffed with 3 mechanics and the Garage Superintendent. Regular service work and most day to day repairs are performed in house.

Street Maintenance

The Street division is responsible for the construction, repair and maintenance of 90 miles of municipal streets and 17 miles of alleys, also storm drainage and street sweeping. The division repairs all signs, city owned traffic signals, curb and gutter and driveways. New driveway aprons require a $75.00 driveway permit, which can be obtained at the Public Works office.

Sanitation

Residential roll-outs are collected once per week at the street or alley. Collection days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Each residential home is provided with one 96 gallon roll-out cart. Each additional cart may be purchased for $61.39, and an additional annual fee of $285.00. Small businesses may purchase a roll-out for $61.39 plus a monthly fee of $40.00.

Refuse

Public Works defines refuse as yard waste, limbs, shrubs, leaves, grass clippings, white goods, brown goods and junk. These items are to be placed at the streets and alleys for collection on the same day as the roll-out cart. For collection services of refuse over the minimum load, and for such items as construction and building materials, the Public Works Department will charge a fee depending on the truck size, plus the cost of disposal at the county landfill. Please call the office for scheduling of this service.

City Cemetery (Cedarwood Cemetery)

The Public Works Department maintains the City Cemetery. The existing cemetery is made up of 17 acres, and an additional 20 acres expansion is in the future. The cemetery services and fees are available upon calling (252) 533-2846.
