Q:  How long will my application remain “active”?

Applications remain active or on file until a hiring decision has been made. After six months you must complete another application.  This ensures that all of your information is current.

Q:  Does the City of Roanoke Rapids require candidates for employment to submit to a drug screen and physical examination

As a condition of employment, all persons selected for full-time positions are required to pass a physical examination, TB skin test, and drug screen.  Part-time positions are only required to pass a drug screen.

Q:  Does the City of Roanoke Rapids require a background check?

The City of Roanoke Rapids does require a background check on any person that is employed.  This background check is done prior to the pre-employment health screening.

 

Q:  Can I submit a resume only?

No, The City of Roanoke Rapids requires a completed application.  The employment application has been designed to provide information needed to make employment related decisions.  An applicant may provide a resume as an attachment to the completed application.  Incomplete applications will not be considered for employment.

Q:  How long does it take once I submit my application before interviews are scheduled.

If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted either by telephone or mail, usually within two to four weeks after the closing date for the position.

Q:  What happens after I submit my application:

 After the closing date, the applications are reviewed and screened by the hiring manager as an initial step in the selection and hiring process.  The most competitive applicants are contacted for an interview.  Applicants who are not selected for an interview are notified by mail.

Q:  Who should I contact to follow-up on my application?

Applicants who are selected for interviews will be contacted directly by the Human Resources Manager or the Department Manager.  Due to the volume of applications we receive, we do not notify each applicant individually regarding the status of the recruitment for the position.  You may however contact the Human Resources Manager to check on the status of your application.  Once the position has been filled all applicants will be notified via mail.

Q:  What should I do if I am interested in a position, but the position is not listed on the vacancy list?

Applications are accepted only for the jobs that are being advertised. 

Q:  Are there any suggestions to help me complete an application?

Complete the entire application.  In addition to full-time work experiences, list any relevant temporary, part-time, internships, volunteer, and military work experiences.  Include a resume, if desired, however, a resume will not be accepted in lieu of the completed application.  Be sure to include your complete education and training background and list any relevant registrations or certifications specific to the position you seek.  Your application form is our primary source of information in considering you for employment, and therefore, should represent your best effort.  Remember that all we know about you is what you list on your application.

Q:  How will I know if a position I have been applied for has been filled?

All applicants receive notification via mail once the position has been filled.

Q:  I missed the deadline.  Can I still apply?

As with any position, once a closing date has passed, no application will be accepted or considered.  Please continue to visit our website and apply for new jobs as they become available.

Q:  Will I automatically be considered for other positions if I previously submitted an application?

 You must submit a separate application for all positions you are interested in.
